About Me

Sav Douglas is a Kentucky-raised artist who is experimenting with the overlapping of soft and hard media. Her focus is on reusing found objects, fibers and discarded plaster molds to create a new life from various materials. Sav is a collector of many things and many memories. Each with a story of a time and place once lived. Her goal is to slow down time and truly enjoy all skills she has learned and is able to do. The ability to work with her hands and pay attention to detail is something not taken for granted.

Artist Statement

Proper Preparation Predicts Perfect Performance. With a little room to wiggle.

Does the place make the person or does the person make the place?

Is change a necessary evil? Or a welcome blessing?

Time stops for no one. We all march forward at the same beat.

Crafts are dying, works go unfinished.

Be okay with being enough. Times are flying.

I am inspired by handmade and traditional domestic crafts and textiles. My work combines my appreciation for folk-art methods of Appalachian crafts, and the use of vintage mass-produced molds. Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and sewing elevate my appreciation for a sense of texture and touch. The idea of mechanically reproduced items is tossed aside to create individual and unique forms. The method of slip-casting and subdued color palette provides a space to explore time, change, home, a sense of stability, and calming unity.
